Chee Hoo is an Oahu-based company dedicated to creating frozen treats that offer the perfect balance of indulgence and health. There aren’t many dairy cows in Hawaii so instead of milk and cream we use delicious, healthy ingredients like bananas and coconuts. Whether we’re sprinkling Kona Coffee beans on our pops or coloring our mint flavor with Big Island grown spirulina, we’re constantly inspired by our beautiful islands that we call home.
Chee Hoo was started by the founders of Banán with an effort to bring products from their retail shops into grocery stores across the island.
“While in college we came across a silly countertop machine that turned fruit into ice cream. We laughed hysterically as we pushed bananas into this machine and out came what appeared as ice cream, or as many would say “nice cream.” I think our laughter was driven by this mysterious transformation but also from wondering, “How the hell have we never had this before?!” We weren’t vegans, we weren’t even the most health conscious eaters but I think the human has the intuition, “Yah, eating a banana is probably healthier than all that sugary crap in ice cream haha…” It just makes sense.
Shortly after that first bowl we dug into we moved home to Hawaii to open up a food truck to start Banán and the rest was history. We continue to improve our products and although the ingredients are so simple I think there are still improvements to be made and innovations we’ve yet uncovered.”
